There are many ways to take advantage of the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route. You can begin now by planning your own adventure using our maps and resources. Or, you can take an organized tour with us.

TALK ABOUT IT
Visit the UGRR Forum, created specifically for this route. You can join the forum and share up-coming events, history, route information, or other related topics or just enjoy what others are saying.

Public libraries along the route are involved with the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route on a community level. Learn more about the collaborative effort with WebJunction here or go directly to their Message Board. Anyone can view or join these discussions.

Now that folks are out there riding on the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route, we invite you to share your experience on our Register Your Ride web page. This is a great place to review other Adventure Cyclists' experiences on the route to freedom.

Adventure Cycling, our partners at the Center for Minority Health and the Advisory Board members are pleased to announce that soon there will be more ways that you can be involved with the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route. If you are interested in learning more about any of the following features, please check back to the website or email

• Be a Conductor/Station on the Underground Railroad Bicycle Route
  Organizations on the route corridor that wish to play host to traveling cyclists as they pass through their community can display a window decal to indicate that cyclists will find a welcome environment at their establishment. An application and review process for those interested in participating is coming soon.


• Spurs on the Route to Freedom
  Adventure Cycling has planned, researched, and mapped the first 152.5 mile spur to the Underground Railroad bike route from Pittsburgh to Erie, PA. There are numerous communities and sites that are a part of the Underground Railroad history. In an effort to link some of these areas to the main corridor, we are producing Spur maps. The Pittsburgh Spur map is available from the online store in a downloadable format. Additional spurs may be added in future years.
• Day Trip Maps
  A first for Adventure Cycling! These maps provide another way to enjoy the Underground Railroad history and scenery by bike. These maps are geared toward casual riders on 10-20 mile loops or out-and-back roads and trails. You can ride on one of the Day Trip Routes or if you wish to propose a Day Trip Map featuring your own community sights and businesses, please contact
